Mayroong kamalayan sa Library 2.0 ang mga nagsasalitang ito at mababanaag ang kahirapang dulot ng pagkadarahop sa pangunahing information tool ng kasalukuyang panahon – ang mga kompyuter, pasilidad sa Internet, gawi at iba pa. Ilan lang ito sa maaring sumalamin sa library poverty na mayroon sa buong kapuloan.

Ikalimang Bahagi ng Isang Serye
Tatlo lamang sa pagkahalatang gawain ang kinakailangang ganapin ng isang laybraryan para sa kasalukuyang panahon.
Una, ang pagtatalaga o paglalaan ng mga serbisyo o pagtuturo na may kaugnayan sa pagpapalaganap ng literasiya sa paggamit ng impormasyon o information literacy. Maaaring simulan ito sa pamamagitan ng mga modyuls na may kinalaman sa Libary 1.0 at Library 2.0. Ang mga modyul, bilang halimbawa, ay magtatampok ng mga layunin na may kaugnayan sa hypermedia, klasipikasyong L para sa mga guro, plagiarism, elektronikong dyornal, tutorials at iba pa. Malayang maisasakatuparan ang mga layunin batay sa interes o pagpili ng modyul ng sinuman.
Pangalawa, matunghayan ng bawat laybraryan ang demonstrasyon ng malayang pagkatuto o independent learning ng mga tumatangkilik sa mga silid-aklatan tungo sa Ikalawang Buhay o Second Life. Ayon kay Limpin (2004), ang literasiya sa paggamit ng impormasyon ay base sa pilosopiya na nagtataguyod na ang impormasyon ay kapangyarihan. Sinumang mayroon o namamahala nito ay kinakailangan may taglay na kasanayan sa paggamit nito.
Ang mga laybraryan, kailanman, ay hindi nakakalag sa pagtuturo ng literasi sa impormasyon. Kailangan nating ituro ito. Inaasahan ang lahat na ipakikilala ang mga konsepto at ituturo ang pagsasama ng mga kadalub-hasaan nakapaloob sa Library 1.0 at Library 2.0. Ang Library 2.0, bilang isang bahagi, ay pagpapairal ng mga teknolohiyang dulot ng bahay-gagamga o web hain ay interaksyon o talakayan, kolaborasyon, at multi-media at iugnay ang mga ito sa bahay-gagamga o web ng ating mga silid-aklatan- paglilingkod at koleksyon.
At the local scene, college librarians regret the abolition of LS 2 which corresponds to the teaching of reference sources requiring all freshmen students to earn at least 3 units. This is a one-time, one semester instruction information literacy course for Library 1.0 skills. For example, if one has no specialized instruction on library classification scheme being used, this can result to low classification literacy causing poor shelf-reading and shelving habits of students.
Graduate students won’t be able to know that library sections of Edilberto P. Dagot Hall have wealth on education resources- published or unpublished collection of the university- if one has fears/anxiety over the use of the on-line public access catalog due to lack of some know-how.
Between OPAC and its 3-decade ago version, graduate students excite themselves by browsing ATHENA for its best feature- e-catalogs while librarians are being consulted for other more researcher options from packed screen and open windows. This environment permits both the librarian and her clients to demonstrate a key skill to multitask and achieve a blend of traditional and e-reference bibliographic services. With a single information inquiry by a reader, for example, both multiple applications and/or results come at hand. These include students’ productive readership and librarians’ improved work environment.

Ikatlong Bahagi ng Isang Serye
Ang hamon ng pagbabago gamit ang apat na mga haligi ng pagkatuto ni Delors- pagkatuto upang makalam, makagawa, mabuhay kasama ang iba at maging ganap - ay tumutulak sa mga silid-aklatan at humihimok sa mga laybraryan na harapin ang pagbabago. Batid ng lahat ang eksplosyon ng impormasyon at ang pangangailangan ng tamang literasiya dala na rin ng apat na nabanggit na mga haligi ng pagkatuto mula sa UNESCO. Ito ay binalangkas maraming taon ng nakalilipas upang ihanda ang sangkatauhan sa isang rebolusyon na inaasahang darating.
LEARNING TO KNOW WHAT TO ACQUIRE Digitization and technologies are costly. The acquisition of electronic resources, in particular, for a library/media center is burdensome and will make coffers empty. Dizon (2005) said that the national government should invest more in ICT structures necessary to access info via the Internet and increase the budget for education sector, especially for the public libraries. School and library administrators will have to learn to understand the information world and its revolution around them, in order for their people to live with improved library work environments and serve their customers completely at the least possible time without any runaround. But, it isn’t enough for everyone to simply listen to the world’s call for libraries and librarians to digitize, thereby, making any attempt pointless.
LEARNING TO DO REFERENCE WORK IN A DIGITAL ENVIRONMENT This new paradigm shift compels the information specialists and their reference services to effect technological changes on the teaching and learning environment of both mentors and students. Computer technology is at the very heart of reference activities and goals. Library professionals, specifically, know that the most significant tool in improving reference service is something they already know intuitively: computers. Information professionals’ multitasking in reference work is inevitable.Between Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) and its decades ago version, librarians excite themselves by browsing ATHENA for its best feature – e-catalogs – while being consulted for other more research options from packed screen and open windows. This environment permits the librarian to demonstrate a key skill to multitask and achieve a blend of traditional and e-reference bibliographical services (e-BI). LEARNING TO LIVE AND NETWORK TOGETHER Online portals and meta-networks have generated tremendous influences over collaborative efforts of both state and private, educational and non-educational, business and non-enterprising offices. They create ICT infrastructures and electronic highways in support of the government’s plan in making the Philippines as the “Knowledge Center of Asia.” ICT means many things for the Philippines – jobs for our young people, a driver of investments, a tool for mass education and as instrument for good government (GMA 2005). When people work together on exciting projects which involve them in unaccustomed forms of action, differences and even conflicts between individuals tend to pale and sometimes disappear. A new form of identity is created by these projects, which enable people to transcend the routines of their personal lives and attach value to what they have in common as against what divides them (UNESCO). SUCs and Philippine’s educationalconsortia, for example, have electronic visions to introduce and can move beyond what they already have achieved in an environment having a world for zeroes and ones.
LEARNING TO BE SUPER IN ICT The information playground – having both CD-ROM and online information sources of DLSU System, http://www.dlsu. edu.ph/., Ateneo de Manila University, http://www.admu. edu.ph/, University of the Philippines, http://www.up. edu.ph/., JRU, http://www.jru. edu.ph/., etc. is superb. These, at the forefront, have superior university library service. Theirs is a complete database industry. They have laboratories of modern facilities for research experiments and subscribe to colossal information databases while other libraries subscribe to them. These super libraries, also, acquire and introduce both externally and internally produced educational software packages and have ICT utilities and capabilities like network computer teleconferencing, video conferencing and the like. Their markets don’t get scared by computer technologies but want to know more about ICT. They find it helpful not only for work related tasks but also subdue and maximize its versatility and power for their professional development and personal use.

Ito ay bunga ng pagiging MALIKHAIN, pagkakaroon ng malalim na PAGNANAIS kaakibat ang angking IMAHINASYON at kakayahang MAKIPAGSAPALARAN o MAGBAGO ay ilan lamang sa mga personal na umuudyok sa isang laybraryan upang hanapin ang sarili at magtagumpay. Naniniwala ang pangkasalukyang laybraryansa sinabi ni Edward de Bono, "sinuman ang nabubuhay sa nakaraan, siya ay walang kinabukasan."

Unang Bahagi ng Isang Serye
Hindi maikakaila na isa ang laybraryan sa mga propesyon na nakikisabay sa pagbabago at pagtataguyod sa anumang dala ng kasaluyang panahon. Nagbabago ang kanyang anyo at uri ng paglilingkod para sa balana. Batid nito ang lawak at angking benepisyo na kanyang dulot sa sinumang magtatanong o hihingi ng impormasyon bunga na rin ng mga teknolohiyang dala ng digital age.
Ayon sa Fairview Public Library, hindi kailanman nagkaroon ang kanilang staff ng anumang training bago nagkaroon ng Internet. Ang pagtuturo na may kaugnayan sa Internet bilang isang gawain ay kakailanganin ng isang malaking paghahanda kaakibat ang mas malalim na pagpapahalaga.
Ang mga laybraryan, sa panahon na kung saan ang mga robots ay waging-waging sa mga bata, ay tinatawag sa iba’t-bang pangalan: cybraryan, information specialist, at virtual librarian ay tatlo sa mga ito na makikita sa mga E-zines, blogs at dyornals.
Ang mga nadaragdag na mga tungkulin at bagong katawagan ng mga laybraryan ay maaring magbigay balangkas sa marami pang gampanin dulot na rin ng teknolohiya. Marami sa kanila ang gumagamit nito sa kanilang trabaho kahit walang nagaganap na pagbabago sa kanilang job description at katawagan bilang mga laybraryan. Ginagamit ng laybraryan mula Reference ang Internet, ang online library catalog at online databases upang tulungan ang sinuman sa paghahanap ng materyales. Nasabi ni Brown (2002) na patuloy na ginagampanan ng mga laybraryan ang kanilang mga gawain at ang pagkakaiba lamang ay mayroon siyang karagdagang mga gamit o tools para dito.

Keeps books in the shelves and/or organizes; a classification literacy test is done to evaluate readers’ utilization and shelving habits.
2. PEOPLE (student assistants, LS interns, faculty, etc.)
Introduces a model or a routine cycle/framework in carrying his tasks daily for a warm and courteous reception to a client’s request as a sign of recognition of the value of a client to the service; and, immediate response to the client’s request and the completion of the service at the least possible time without any runaround:

Prepares/writes articles for a library newsletter and/or produces a weekly newsleaf and informs reader newly acquired reading materials, etc. (The Library Chronicle, The PNU Post, The PNU-LISAA Newsletter with articles like: Oops: Why the Librarians Gain Public Respect, At the Charging Desk, Professional Ethics: The Librarian and His Constituents and His Co-workers, etc.)
Assists students, faculty and administrative employees in their library research by having continuous classification literacy campaign in their use of B, C, D, E, F, G, H, J, K, M, N; general orientation on the use of the PNU library; allows maximum use of the collections by the adoption of an open access system;
Supervises student assistants and Library Science interns by orienting them through Powerpoint presentation of their Circulation Work and activities and adopt the Librarian’s Mantras (How to Be Gentle Librarians) in approaching behavioral problems in the Section.
Interns are provided with options before embarking on reference work and serial work. First, create things to do- an LS intern is permitted to suggest, generate, initiate relevant tasks. If her list is not enough, a second option is given. The librarian prescribes and gives specific activities to accomplish to the intern.
Supervises in repair and covering of books;
Serves as the readers’ adviser in the Section through book talking and biblio-therapy, where there is a review of the delivery, content, audience impact and relevance. Book talk is a speaking activity done with Library Science interns. This allows current awareness and reader analysis as well. Some titles used for book talks were Hope for a Flower, The Old Man and the Sea, The Pearl, The Alchemist, Who Moved the Cheese, etc.; book discussion groups. Let’s Read the Little Prince Again is an encouragement for librarians to perform as book consultant and eventually help assist readers behaviorally and academically; and class visits. Activities like Book Caravan, Wedding Dance in Philippine Literature classes under Prof. Marquez, Why Worry as gifts to classes have given the librarian extra time and contact hours with his readers.
3. Takes charge of resources;

(1) Clipping files have helped and assisted library clientele. specifically, recent issues that books have yet to publish are fairly explained and expanded through articles periodically clipped out from subscriptions; (2) Periodical index refers to a type of an index having periodical articles as its contents with bibliographic information fundamental to fast article search. It is a compilation of both published and unpublished write-ups personally indexed by the librarian with subjects assigned to each article for easy retrieval.
Monitors weekly bulletins on contemporary issues namely: Talk of the Town, Health & Science, Education & Home, People at Work, etc.
Writes and requests from donating agencies free serials & other publications and acknowledges each. Donors include NCCA, Kaisa, Haribon Foundation, DOST, etc.

Ayon sa Fairview Public Library, hindi kailanman nagkaroon ang kanilang staff ng anumang training bago nagkaroon ng Internet. Ang pagtuturo na may kaugnayan sa Internet bilang isang gawain ay kakailanganin ng isang malaking paghahanda kaakibat ang mas malalim na pagpapahalaga.
Ang mga laybraryan, sa panahon na kung saan ang mga robots ay waging-waging sa mga bata, ay tinatawag sa iba’t-bang pangalan: cybraryan, information specialist, at virtual librarian ay tatlo sa mga ito na makikita sa mga E-zines, blogs at dyornals.
Ang mga nadaragdag na mga tungkulin at bagong katawagan ng mga laybraryan ay maaring magbigay balangkas sa marami pang gampanin dulot na rin ng teknolohiya. Marami sa kanila ang gumagamit nito sa kanilang trabaho kahit walang nagaganap na pagbabago sa kanilang job description at katawagan bilang mga laybraryan. Ginagamit ng laybraryan mula Reference ang Internet, ang online library catalog at online databases upang tulungan ang sinuman sa paghahanap ng materyales. Nasabi ni Brown (2002) na patuloy na ginagampanan ng mga laybraryan ang kanilang mga gawain at ang pagkakaiba lamang ay mayroon siyang karagdagang mga gamit o tools para dito.

Supervises and manages the reading area of the Section (supervision, instruction, guidance, instruction, bibliography, assessment)
1. ROOM
Initiates a marketing brand to sell services of the Section such as: Fast Access, Create Success is
adopted primarily to:
a. accelerate reference service
b. recognize the power of access, not only the strength of holdings
c. promote productive and excellent readership
One library has Excellent Product, Excellent Delivery System, Excellent Mindset while Ateneo libraries have In-line with the Past, On-line with the Future. This is necessary for all libraries.
Creates a flow-chart/model of library routine for room management and discipline like: R-S-B-P plus D means Registration-Statistics-Book Borrowing-Photocopy Request plus Discipline;
Assists through OPAC and with an internet facility for search assistance;
Produces an in-house brochure;
Keeps books in the shelves and/or organizes; a classification literacy test is done to evaluate readers’ utilization and shelving habits.
2. PEOPLE (student assistants, LS interns, faculty, etc.)
Introduces a model or a routine cycle/framework in carrying his tasks daily for a warm and courteous reception to a client’s request as a sign of recognition of the value of a client to the service; and, immediate response to the client’s request and the completion of the service at the least possible time without any runaround:

Prepares/writes articles for a library newsletter and/or produces a weekly newsleaf and informs reader newly acquired reading materials, etc. (The Library Chronicle, The PNU Post, The PNU-LISAA Newsletter with articles like: Oops: Why the Librarians Gain Public Respect, At the Charging Desk, Professional Ethics: The Librarian and His Constituents and His Co-workers, etc.)
Assists students, faculty and administrative employees in their library research by having continuous classification literacy campaign in their use of B, C, D, E, F, G, H, J, K, M, N; general orientation on the use of the PNU library; allows maximum use of the collections by the adoption of an open access system;
Supervises student assistants and Library Science interns by orienting them through Powerpoint presentation of their Circulation Work and activities and adopt the Librarian’s Mantras (How to Be Gentle Librarians) in approaching behavioral problems in the Section.
Interns are provided with options before embarking on reference work and serial work. First, create things to do- an LS intern is permitted to suggest, generate, initiate relevant tasks. If her list is not enough, a second option is given. The librarian prescribes and gives specific activities to accomplish to the intern.
Supervises in repair and covering of books;
Serves as the readers’ adviser in the Section through book talking and biblio-therapy, where there is a review of the delivery, content, audience impact and relevance. Book talk is a speaking activity done with Library Science interns. This allows current awareness and reader analysis as well. Some titles used for book talks were Hope for a Flower, The Old Man and the Sea, The Pearl, The Alchemist, Who Moved the Cheese, etc.; book discussion groups. Let’s Read the Little Prince Again is an encouragement for librarians to perform as book consultant and eventually help assist readers behaviorally and academically; and class visits. Activities like Book Caravan, Wedding Dance in Philippine Literature classes under Prof. Marquez, Why Worry as gifts to classes have given the librarian extra time and contact hours with his readers.
